NATIVE AMERICAN PATHWAYS

A Practical Resource For Achievement, Health And Happiness.

Projects overview

COVID-19 Resource Flyers

We create and share Native-led content to support and inform our community through a culturally inclusive lense. This includes specific focus on the strengths of our local resources and leaders. Our content emphasizes safety measures and precautions using tribal-specific references. This includes messaging on fishing and upcoming deer season that resonate with our community much more than existing standard, non-Native messaging. We also develop content in response to updated public health safety measures as research evolves.

Fire Smoke Safety: Staying Safe During Wildfire Season

Wildfire smoke contains dangerous pollutants that can harm your health.

Wildfires are becoming more frequent and intense, exposing more of our community to unhealthy smoke. Smoke contains fine particles and gases that can irritate eyes and lungs .People with heart/lung conditions, elders, children are especially at risk. There are things you can do to reduce your smoke exposure.

Use Air Filters and Purifiers

  • Stay inside with windows/doors closed.

  • Use high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and purifiers.

  • Consider a cleaner air shelter if smoke is very heavy.

Wear a Mask Outdoors

  • N95 or P100 masks offer the best protection.

  • Make sure mask fits tightly.

  • Limit strenuous activity that increases breathing rate.

  • Monitor Local Air Quality Reports

  • Check AQI (air quality index) daily. ( Our Site will have updated air quality information  if air quality is impacted in Hoopa, CA)

  • Avoid going out when air quality is unhealthy.

  • Be aware of emergency alerts about smoke.

Reduce Other Exposures

  • Avoid smoking, frying foods, burning candles.

  • Use humidifiers to reduce dry irritated airways.

  • Drink plenty of water to keep mucus membranes moist.
